TIRINKOT (PAN): Nine local policemen were killed in a militant attack in the central province of Uruzgan, officials said on Thursday.
The suspected Taliban fighters attacked a local police checkpoint in the Dashi area of Charchino district on Wednesday, killing nine policemen manning the post, the governor’s office said in a statement.
One of the policemen had links with the rebels, who assailed the checkpoint, a provincial council member hailing from the district, Hajji Naem Khan, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
Nine policemen were killed and a 10th was missing after the assault, the district development council head, Juma Gul, said.
However, a Taliban spokesman, Qari Yousuf Ahmadi, claiming responsibility for the attack, said 10 policemen had been killed.
