JALALABAD (PAN projects — a road and a cold storage — were inaugurated in the eastern province of Nangarhar, officials said on Monday.
Funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), the 1.5 kilomentre road cost $189,000, Rural Rehabilitation and Development Director, Hazrat Bilal Nuristani, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
Six small bridges and a 365-metre retaining wall were also constructed as part of the road project that linked Moy Mubarak with the Charbagh area of Sorkhrod district, he said, adding the road took four months to complete.
The cold storage was constructed in the Sorkhrod district by the agriculture department for storing vegetables, the district development council head, Mohammad Ikram, said.
He said the newly constructed road would enable growers to transfer their products to Jalalab city.
Separately, repair work on a building for the agriculture faculty in Nangarhar University has been completed, the acting chancellor Dil Aqa Wiqar said.
Repairing the electric system, water supply system and installing windowpanes was part of the project funded by the Provincial Reconstruction Team’s Agricultural Development Team.
