QALA-I-NAW (PAN released the father of the provincial council secretary after spending a week in captivity in northwestern Badghis province, officials said on Thursday.
Abdul Kabir’s father, abducted by the rebels in the Jowand district last week, was freed on Wednesday night, Abdul Nasir Nazari, the deputy provincial council chief, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
He said the release came as a result of the mediation of tribal elders. Soon after the abduction, the kidnappers had sought ransom money, but later they changed their mind and released the captive. The kidnappers had warned Kabir against travelling in the district.
