JALALABAD (PAN): Thousands of protesting university students on Tuesday, in the eastern province of Nangarhar, demanded public trial for killers of Panjwae civilians.
Nearly 4,000 students of Nangarhar University staged a peaceful protest and blocked the Kabul-Jalalabad Highway in the Daronta area of the province.
The protesters called on villagers to take up arms and punish the perpetrators — the killings that had stirred widespread anger across the country.
They also chanted anti-American slogans: “Down with US, death to Obama and US forces, and long live Mujahiddin.”
US soldiers attacked three houses on Sunday morning, killing 16 civilians including children and women, injuring five others in the Panjwae district of southern Kandahar.
It was not the first time US soldiers killed innocent Afghan civilians, but they have also desecrated Islamic Holy book, said Emranullah Kakar, an engineering student.
Protesters burned effigy of US President Barack Obama and Red Cross symbol.
At the end of the protest, they issued a resolution letter condemning the attack, calling it a crusaders’ war and demanded revenge on US soldiers.
The peaceful protest started at 9 am and ended at 10.30am, and police were deployed to maintain security, said Ebadullah Talwar, the deputy police chief.
