JALALABAD (PAN): Hundreds of school students in eastern Nangarhar province on Sunday staged a protest demonstration to condemn the killing of 16 civilians by US soldiers in southern Kandahar province.
The demonstration emerged from the Nangarhar High School in the afternoon and after passing through the Talashi and the Telecommunication squares culminated peacefully at the Pakhtunistan square in Jalalabad, the provincial capital.
The students were chanting slogans against the United States and called for the soldiers responsible to be put on trial.
One of the organisers, Rahmatullah Afzali, told Pajhwok Afghan News the government had failed to protect Afghans. “The government did nothing when the killer was moved to the US after killing innocent women and children,” he said.
The governor’s spokesman, Ahmad Zia Abdulzai, said the demonstration ended peacefully due to tight security arrangements by police.
