JALALABAD (PAN): Nuristan Governor Tamim Nuristani on Thursday said four million of the 10 million afghanis ($202,020) missing salaries of local police had been recovered.
Nuristani told Pajhwok Afghan News he had appointed a delegation to probe the issue and arrest those involved in the misappropriation of funds.
Of the three months salaries of Nuristan police that have been unaccounted for, four million afghanis have been recovered, the governor said, without putting a specific figure on the missing amount.
Police chief Gen. Ghulamullah, who assumed charge on January 11, said he had informed the Ministry of Interior about the latest developments in the case.
“Shamsullah, who is responsible for paying salaries to policemen, is said to be sick and I suspect he is trying to avoid arrest in the case,” he added.
