JALALABAD (PAN opened its office in east Nuristan province on Saturday, a senior official said.

Governor Tamim Nuristani told Pajhwok Afghan News the council office was inaugurated in Paron, the provincial capital.

Local officials and local tribal elders participated in the opening ceremony. The governor said the 27 council members would soon embark on their mission.

Gen. Ghulamullah Khan, the provincial police chief, said a 15-member group of mentors from the interior ministry trained 150 policemen on public safety, war techniques, use of arms and dealing with rebel ambushes.
