BAMYAN: A huge amount of cash was stolen from two moneychangers in central Bamyan province, police and locals said on Monday.
The thefts happened late on Sunday night in Bamyan City, moneychanger Ateequllah told Pajhwok Afghan News.
He said: “This morning, one of my friends called me and said your shop’s lock has been broken. When I came to the shop, I called police to investigate the issue.”
He claims about 3.5million afghanis and id=”mce_marker”5,000 had been stolen. Thieves had broken his shop’s lock and stolen the money, he alleged.
Dr. Basir, another businessman, said unidentified men had broken into his shop and decamped with about $ 9,990. He suspected police involvement in the robbery.
Col. Ghulam Sakhi Naikpai, deputy police chief, confirmed the incident, saying an investigation was underway. So far no arrest could be made in connection with the thefts.

NANGARHAR: At least 10 insurgents and three border policemen were killed during a fierce clash that lasted three hours in the Nari district of eastern Kunar province on Monday, officials said.
Another four border policemen and as many insurgents were wounded in the gunbattle that happened in the Saw Khwar area, said the first border police zone spokesman.
Idrees Momand told Pajhwok Afghan News the intense firefight broke out after the militants ambushed the security personnel.
The town’s administrative head, Haji Gul Zaman, said police came under attack during a patrol of the Zangal Boshi area.
Afghan and ISAF troops reached the scene to support border police, he said, adding a search operation was ongoing in the area.
A Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, confirmed the incident, but had no information about casualties.
