KABUL judges were awarded certificates on completing the first of the three English-language training modules in the capital Kabul on Monday.
The US government, in cooperation with the International Association of Women Judges, responded to requests from the judges who wanted to enhance language and technology skills to take advantage of professional development opportunities in Afghanistan and abroad.
Besides the course, a computer lab was inaugurated, where women could participate in computer training programmes, said a US embassy statement.
“Women professionals need training opportunities that respond to their particular needs. We are fortunate that the Supreme Court’s leaders have recognised this need and have addressed it by bringing the training here to you.
“And I will add that the Supreme Court is equally fortunate it has women judges who are willing to invest their time and effort to learn new skills, all in the interest of enhancing justice in Afghanistan,” said Brig. Gen. Dixie A. Morrow, deputy coordinating director for rule of law and law enforcement at the US embassy.
About 30 attendees and officials from the US Embassy, the Supreme Court, the Kabul Appellate Court and the international community gathered at the Appeals Court to celebrate the completion of the first phase of training initiatives designed especially for women judges.
