KHOST CITY (PAN): Water and Power Ministry conducted it first-ever survey to build five major dams that would generate electricity in southeastern Khost province on Thursday.
Once commissioned, these mega dams, earmarked to be located in Mazghor area on the outskirt of Khost City, the provincial capital, Domanda, Tani, Baak and Alisher districts, are capable of generating power plus irrigating land.
A high-powered delegation, lead by En. Walid Howeda, including Afghan and foreign engineers, would carry out the initial survey for the dam projects.
Howeda told Pajhowk Afghan News that the delegation had surveyed some potential areas for the past two days and once completed the dams could irrigate acres of land, besides generating electricity.
He said it would take about two years to construct each dam.
Governor Abdul Jabar Naeemi pledged to provide any support for the project and urged the delegation to launch the works soon.
