Teacher training college gets new building

BAMYAN (PAN): A newly-constructed building for a teacher training centre — benefiting more than 900 students who were previously taught in rented houses — was inaugurated in central Bamyan province on Monday, a senior official said.

Governor Habiba Surabi told the inaugural ceremony the facility would help resolve problems earlier faced by trainees. She said construction work on another two buildings, including a hostel, would be completed next year.

The new building, a World Bank-funded project, cost id=”mce_marker”86,000 (9.2 million afghanis) and was constructed by a local company.

The teacher training college director, Syed Mohammad Hashimi, said the new building had eight classrooms and six administrative rooms. The project was implemented in the Esa Khan desert in two years.

Nearly 1,000 students, 60 percent of them females, had been without a proper building and a hostel since the college’s establishment in 2007.
