TALOQAN (PAN): At least 30 villagers lost their lives and 20 others went missing after flash floods hit two villages in the northern province of Takhar, an official said on Friday.
Dozens of people have been missing as a result of the overnight floods that washed away 60 houses in Shiraw and Mandrah villages of Ashkamash district, the governor’s spokesman said.
Mustafa Rasuli told Pajhwok Afghan News 30 bodies had been fished out by Afghan security personnel while 20 villagers were uet to be found.
The provincial administration had asked Kabul for helicopters to take rescuers and ivestigators to the site, he said, adding roads to the affected villages were impassable.
Last week, 28 people died in a heavy flood that washed away a wedding party in the Deh Murda village of Sancharak district in northern Sar-i-Pul province.
Governor Abdul Jabbar Taqwa says the flood was triggered by a mighty wave of water breaking through a dam in the remote mountainous area.
