KABUL): A US Embassy official in Kabul on Wednesday announced $5 million (249 million afghanis) in aid for economic development of Afghan businesswomen.
Speaking at a news conference, the embassy coordinating director for development and economic affairs said developing the economy of businesswomen and creating employment opportunities for them was vital for the overall development of the country.
Richard Olson added: “A large number of women support their families. We ask major companies to take advantage of this opportunity and cooperate with women looking for jobs.”
Also present at the news conference was another embassy official, Donna Wetlon, who said, most of the Afghan women had good handicraft skills, but had no access to the market. He added 0they would continue to monitor transparency in development projects in the country.
