KABUL): The Right and Justice Party on Sunday called for an impartial hearing into the case of its prominent leader and former lawmaker, Abdul Kabir Ranjbar, who is currently under detention on criminal charges.
In a statement, the party said: “We have come to know through reports released by media outlets that Abdul Kabir Ranjbar has been detained by the Attorney General Office (AGO) and he is currently under investigation.”
It said the party wanted a fair hearing be given to Ranjbar and there should be no political interference in his case.
The AGO detained Ranjbar for allegedly involved in the abduction and rape of a woman.
The former Wolesi Jirga member was detained on Saturday by the AGO’s prosecution office in Kabul, the deputy attorney general, Rahmatullah Nazari, had told Pajhwok Afghan News. Ranjbar is being held at the AGO detention centre.
