TIRINKOT (PAN militants were killed and several others were arrested during an operation by the Afghan commando unit in central Uruzgan province, officials said on Thursday.

Crime branch police chief Col. Gulab Khan told Pajhwok Afghan News that 12 militants were killed and 85 others detained during the operation in Shali Nava area of Khas Uruzgan district. The detainees are currently being interrogated.

A commander for the unit’s eight battalion in Uruzgan, Ahmadullah said the operation also involved foreign troops.

A Taliban spokesman, Qari Yousaf Ahmadi, rejected their fighters had been killed in the district, claiming those killed and arrested were civilians, who had no ties with them.
