FARAH CITY (PAN): Three people were detained on the charge of smuggling 6,500 bottles of alcoholic beverages into the western province of Farah, officials said on Friday.
The liquor placed in 64 barrels was recovered by police from a truck, coming from Kandahar, in the Kansak village on the outskirts of Farah City, the governor’s spokesman said.
Abdul Rahman Zhwandai told Pajhwok Afghan News one of the detainees was a resident of the fourth police district of Farah City and the two belonged to Kandahar.
The banned beverages were manufactured in the United Arab Emirates, said the deputy police chief, Col. Mohammad Ghaus Malyar.
