KABUL): The Criminal Justice Task Force (CJTF) had convicted 12 drug traffickers and awarded them jail sentences ranging from 10 to 20 years, an official said on Saturday.
The convicts from Badakhshan, Takhar, Nimroz, Helmand and Baghlan provinces were arrested for trafficking more than 214 kilogrammes of heroin, 451kg of opium and 32 kg of morphine, CJTF spokesman Khalid Ahmad Mowahid told Pajhwok Afghan News.
He said the men had engaged defence lawyers to plead their cases and now could move their cases to the Appellant Court and Supreme Court against the primary court’s verdict.
Over the past three months, 221 drug-related suspects, including 10 government officials and three foreigners, had been convicted by the court, added Mowahid.
