PUL-I-KHUMRI (PAN Minister Obaidullah Obaid survived a bomb attack on Sunday when one of the cars in his convoy struck a roadside bomb in northern Baghlan province.
Muhamad Kamin, the Baghlan-i-Markazi district chief, told Pajhwok Afghan News that the explosion happened at about 7am in the Jangle Bagh area.
He said the minister was travelling in a convoy from Baghlan to northern Kunduz province when the incident happened. Obaid escaped unhurt in the bombing that wounded two of his guards.
Apparently, the improvised explosive device had been planted under one of police vehicles in the minister’s convoy, the district chief believed.
Abdul Khalil, a doctor at the Baghlan Civil Hospital, confirmed receiving two policemen with serious injuries from the explosion scene.
The attack on Obaid comes a day after prominent lawmaker Ahmad Khan Samangani was killed in suicide assault on his daughter’s wedding party in Samarangan. At least 20 people died in the bombing.
