JALALABAD (PAN): Nuristan Governor Tamim Nuristani survived a second attack on his life in less than 24 hours on Tuesday morning when militants targeted his motorcade in the eastern province, said officials.
Police and militants clashed after the attack on Nuristani’s convoy at 7.30am in the Kordar area of Wama district, the governor’s spokesman, Mohammad Zarin, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
The militants fled the scene when more reinforcements arrived on the scene. One policeman was killed and another injured in the firefight that lasted nearly an hour, he added.
The insurgents attacked the governor’s convoy on Monday evening in the same area, injuring five policemen. The injured were rushed to a clinic located about two kilometres from the scene, said Hamidullah, a doctor.
Nuristani was travelling from the provincial capital Paroon to Nurgram district through Wama town when the fighters assaulted his convoy, said the provincial council, Enayat-ur-Rahman.
