JALALABAD (PAN):  Five people were killed, 25 injured and hundreds of livestock away by floods in four districts of eastern Nangarhar province, officials said on Wednesday.

The rain-induced floods hit the Kot, Khogyani, Spin Ghar and Achin districts on Tuesday night, the governor’s spokesman, Ahmad Zia Abdulzai, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

He said one person was killed and a dozen others were wounded in Achin district while a man died in Spin Ghar. But a tribal elder from the district, Malik Osman said that two people were killed and 19 others injured by the floods.

Abdulzai said two people were killed and four wounded in Kot district. Another man died and two suffered injuries in Khogyani.

According to Osman, 24 waterheads were destroyed, 150 acres of land washed away and 100 livestock killed by floods in Achin.

Up to 32.5 acres of rice crop and three retaining walls were washed away by the flooding in the Khogyani, said the administrative head of the town, Hajji Syed Rahman.

Reports from Kot district said 20 water heads and 17.5 acres of agricultural land were destroyed by the rainfall in Lagharjo, Andarabi and Tangi areas.
