KABUL) operatives foiled two coordinated suicide attacks as a result of a raid in capital Kabul, the intelligence department said on Sunday.
Five suicide bombers, including a Pakistani national who wanted to storm 2nd Vice-President Mohammad Karim Khalili’s residence and the parliament buildingwere detained during the special operation late on Saturday night in the 1st police district of Kabul.
A statement from NDS said suicide vests, Kalashnikovs, machine guns, an RPG-7, hand grenades, hundreds of cartridges, rocket shells, military uniforms, a Pakistani identity card, currency and mobile phone numbers were recovered.
The currency and mobile numbers showed the bombers had links with terrorist groups across the border, the spy service said.
Five suicide bombers were killed on Aug. 02, 2012 as a result of a similar raid in the Pul-i-Charki area of the 2nd police district in Kabul.
During the operation, the Afghan security force seized a large cache of explosives, suicide vest components, weapons and ammunition the insurgents had stockpiled for the attack, the International Security Assistance Force said.
