KABUL): At the head of a high-level delegation, President Hamid Karzai on Monday flew to Saudi Arabia to attend an extraordinary meeting of the Organistaion of the Islamic Conference (OIC).
President Karzai’s chief spokesman Aimal Faizi told Pajhwok Afghan that the two-day meeting in Makkah would confer on the overall situation in the Islamic world and the need for Muslim unity.
The meeting would focus on current situation in Syria, Mali, Palestine and Burma, he said, adding that Karzai had been invited by the Saudi king. During the trip, the president will perform Umrah.
At the summit, Karzai is expected to drum up support for the peace process initiated by his administration and insist on the inclusion of such backing in the declaration.
