JALALABAD (PAN): A possible explosion was averted with the seizure of an explosives-laden Suzuki car in Jalalabad, the capital of eastern Nangarhar province, officials said on Wednesday.
The car containing a large amount of explosives was seized by National Directorate of Security operatives it in front of the Bibi Hawa Girls’ High School, the governor’s spokesman said.
Ahmad Zia Abdulzai told Pajhwok Afghan News the car was detonated by local police with the support of the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF).
He said the insurgents wanted to detonate the car between the school and the crowded wheat market, but intelligence agents thwarted their plan.
Separately, two people were detained on the charge of trafficking 21 tonnes of ammonium nitrate, a fertiliser used in making bombs, the NDS said.
