SHIBERGHAN (PAN): Two teenage boys were critically injured when a mine apparently left over from the country’s wars during Soviet occupation exploded near Shiberghan, the capital of northern Jawzjan province, on Friday, police said.
The mine went off after a donkey belonging to the boys stepped up on it, police chief Brig. Gen. Abdul Aziz Ghairat said.
The victims aged between 15 and 16 years were collected useable items from a garbage dump when the blast occurred, he said. The donkey was killed.
Shiberghan civil hospital director Dr. Mirwais Amini said the boys had relieved grave injuries on their arms and legs and the stomach.
They were evacuated to another hospital in northern Balkh province for better treatment, he said.
