HERAT CITY (PAN) airstrike in western Herat province on Saturday, officials said.
The Taliban’s administrative chief and his deputy for Shindand district were killed along with two other suspects in the air raid that happened at about 6am, an Afghan National Army (ANA) spokesman said.
In an exclusive talk with Pajhwok Afghan News, Nastwa Nasiri identified the dead as Mullah Hussain and Mullah Sultan, the rebel military commission head for Farah province.
With identities of the two others yet to be ascertained, the governor’s spokesman said an ISAF warplane struck the vehicle carrying the militants in Majboorabad area of the district.
Mohiuddin Noori blamed Akhtar, who also acted as Taliban’s chief for Farsi and Idraskan, for planning and executing a series of attacks in the region.
In response to an emailed query from Pajhwok, ISAF confirmed the operation in Shindand, saying five insurgents were killed. “The assessment is ongoing; therefore, there are no further details releasable at this stage.”
