JAWZJAN (PAN): Nearly 300 people donated blood for the victims of Friday’s suicide attack in the northern province of Faryab, officials said on Monday.
Nearly 41 people were killed and 56 others injured when a suicide bomber detonated his suicide vest outside a mosque during Eid-ul-Adha prayers in Maimana city, Faryab’s capital.
Close to 280 people, including 30 doctors and nurses, donated blood for the wounded people in the Faryab Civil Hospital, said Dr Faridoon, acting director of public health.
He said the blood would be given to the injured victims if need arises.
Of the total 280 people who donated blood, 250 donors were Mili Islami Junbash party members, the party’s youth affairs head in Jawzjan told Pajhwok Afghan News.
He urged the government to bring the criminals involved in the bombing to justice.
Separately, the Turkish Provincial Reconstruction) distributed meat in the northern province of Shiberghan in conjunction with the Eid celebration, said PRT spokesman Amruddin Qurban.
The PRT officials slaughtered the animals donated by Turkish people and the meat would be distributed to about 3,000 needy families starting today, he said.
Tribal elders and prayer leaders would introduce the underprivileged families to the PRT to be eligible for the aid.
A widow from Maimana city, Zarghona, said she received 3.5 kg meat from the PRT and thanked the Turkish people for their kind assistance.
