HERAT CITY (PAN’s southeastern province of Nimroz, the provincial governor, Sarwar Subat, said on Wednesday.
Dozens of missiles were fired from the Iranian soil at Pamir, Kamyab and Hakam border posts between 4.30pm and 8.00pm on Tuesday, the governor told Pajhwok Afghan News.
No casualties resulted from the shelling of the uninhabited area, the governor said, adding that he has sought a formal explanation from Iran’s border police commanders.
Citing initial reports, he said the missiles could have strayed during an ongoing military exercise on the Iranian side of the border. Subat said Iranian authorities would give him a formal reply on Thursday.
Approached for comments, Nimroz police chief Gen. Mohammad Musa Rasuli neither confirmed nor denied the incident. He said the question should be put to the governor.
