HERAT CITY (PAN): A woman was beheaded by his husband in the Oba district of western Herat province, officials said on Saturday.
Ahmad Gul, the urban court chief, told Pajhwok Afghan News that Bibi Jan, 25, was slaughtered with a knife on Thursday night.
Her husband escaped from the scene after killing his spouse, who had no children and often remained at odds with the man.
“We have arrested the owner of the house where the couple lived,” said the district police chief, Sher Aqa.
A few days ago, the woman had been to her parents’ home because of a family dispute, according to Aqa, who said the house owner brought back Bibi Jan. “We have tasked police with catching the killer,” he added.
Abdul Qadir Rahimi, the Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission (AIHRC) chief in the western zone, said 43 suicide, 20 murder, 15 burn and 12 rape cases had been reported in Herat since the beginning of the year.
According to the commission, 39,000 incidents of violence against women have been registered over the last nine years, including forced marriage, beatings, burns and murders.
