KUDNUZ CITY (PAN): Eighty more local policemen completed a basic course, taking the number of trained policemen to 1,350 in the northern province of Kunduz, officials said on Friday.

The deployment of 150 member of the NATO-funded Afghan Local Police (ALP) was approved for Aliabad district, with 70 completing a training course two weeks ago.

Another 80 members completed their training today, police spokesman, Syed Sarwar Hussaini, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

He said the policemen — recruited on the basis of guarantees from tribal elders and influential figures — were trained on human rights, search techniques, use of weapons and police rules.

Foreign and Afghan trainers mentored the recruits, whose deployment would help maintain security for the district, hoped a resident of Aliabad, Mohammad Ali.
