KABUL): Following in Mohammad Nabi’s footsteps, two more Afghan cricketers on Saturday left for Dhaka to play in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) in response to an invitation from the Bangladesh Cricket Board to avail a chance of being signed, an official said.
The pair –fast blower Shahpur Zadran and spinner Samiullah Shinwari — are to play for Khulna Royal Bengals (KRB), a franchise team in BPL, representing the division of Khulna in the twenty20 league that began on Friday, the Afghanistan Cricket Board chief executive told Pajhwok Afghan News.
Zadran and Shinwari had been in a constant contact with Bangladesh cricket officials, Noorullah Murdad said. Ending in February, the event features seven teams, with the addition of the Rangpur Riders.
Pakistan Cricket Board refused to allow any of its 27 players for the second season of BPL in retaliation for Bangladesh’s cancellation of the Pakistan tour over safety issues. In 2012, Orion Group made the winning bid of $1.10 million for the franchise in the previous event.
