KABUL leader was killed during a joint operation by Afghan and coalition forces in the Dangam district of Kunar province, the alliance said on Friday.
Known as Wali, the rebel leader allegedly coordinated activities between the Taliban and al Qaeda in the province and organised attacks against security forces in the district, a statement from ISAF said.
Another Taliban leader — blamed for conducting direct fire and improvised explosive device attacks against Afghan and coalition forces — provided weapons and IEDs to other insurgents in the district.
Also in Helmand, an Afghan and coalition security force detained an insurgent leader, who led a rebel group responsible for IED attacks against, in Nawa-i-Barakzai area. He also distributed homemade explosives to fighters.
During a separate operation, an IED expert was held in the Spin Boldak district of Kandahar province. He allegedly constructed, distributed and emplaced IEDs targeting Afghan and coalition forces.
A Haqqani leader network, who distributed weapons to insurgents in Musakhel district, was detained in the capital of southeastern Khost province. The security force also detained a suspected militant and seized multiple weapons.
