ISLAMABAD (PAN, officials said on Monday.

The fierce battle erupted late on Thursday between the Pakistani Taliban and the Ansarul Islam militant outfits in the remote valley of Tirah in Khyber Agency.

A local administrative official, who requested anonymity, told Pajhwok Afghan News the two sides were fighting in Maidan, Satani, Kala Wach, Botan, Dwa Thoee, Ziarat Sar and Ghulam Ghali areas.

Ansarul Islam, perceived to be a pro-government organisation, reportedly regained some ground after being ousted from one of its bases in the area, with the Taliban are entrenched in a bunker that they had seized on the first day of the clashes.

Several houses have been damaged in the area, where the Taliban set alight vehicles carrying food and other supplies to a stronghold of the rival group.
