BAMYAN CITY (PAN (UNAMA) on Wednesday announced it would stay for several years in central Bamyan province.
Elena Drozdik, the acting chief of UNAMA in Bamyan, said this at an inaugural ceremony for a new office compound of the mission in the central province. Local officials also attended the event.
“The inauguration of UNAMA’s new compound reflects the increasing attention it is paying to the region and its commitment to be present here,” she said, adding it also showed the local government’s support to the mission.
Governor Dr Habiba Sarabi congratulated UNAMA officials on opening the new office. “This new office building shows the commitment of the United Nations and international community to help the people of Bamyan.”
UNAMA would cover Dikundi province, where the mission recently closed its office in the wake of a public protest, from its zonal office in Bamyan.
