ASADABAD (PAN): An appellate court on Tuesday reduced a 20-year-old man’s sentence of 20 years in jail to 16 years in a murder case in eastern Kunar province.

Police detained Mohammad Habib, the convict, seven months ago for killing a schoolteacher named Faiz Mohammad in the Khairabad area of Narang district.

A primary court sentenced Habib to 20 years in imprisonment in the case, but his lawyer moved the appellate court, seeking a reduced term for his client.

Witnesses brought along by Mohammad’s family to the court claimed they had seen Habib was fleeing after killing the teacher.

The jury head Mohammad Ashraf Amin ruled under the relevant law and available evidence, they decided to cut the sentence by four years.

However, Habib was not satisfied with the verdict, insisting to move a high court.
