The Australian government had pledged airlifting the almond to Dubai and finding a market for the Afghan stone fruit with the cooperation of USAID, Director of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock Sardar Mohammad Aloko said.
Special machines for kernel-shell separation had been donated by the Australian government and the nuts would be sorted by women workers, he said. It would jack up the price of almond and earn the province good revenue besides creating work opportunities for many, he added.
A resident of the province, Haji Bari, said that previously there had been no market for their almond products. “Now we are happy over the export of kernels to Dubai.”
