Hundreds of children rally in Ghor

CHAGHCHARAN (PAN province that remained closed for the third consecutive day.

After gathering at a mosque representatives, provincial council members, businessmen and residents, marched to the city, chanting: “We want electricity and asphalting of roads.”

They marched in front of the provincial council office. One protestor, Mohibullah, said: “There is a lot of water flowing in Harirod River, but the government has failed to build a single power dam on it.”

Another protestor, Sakina, said children were the future of Afghanistan and the government should resolve their problems. She told Pajhwok Afghan News they studied at night using candlelight.

Over one hundred children gathered at the Ghor Stadium, voicing similar demands.

Wolesi Jirga member Sima Joyenda said many families participated in the protest, which entered the third day, motivating children to take to the streets.

The protestors said: “The absence of paved roads has sent prices of food items, construction materials and fuel soaring.” A bag of cement, selling for 250 afghanis in neighbouring Herat, cost 550 afs in Ghor, he complained.

He would lead a delegation of public representatives, Wolesi Jirga and tribal elders to Kabul to discuss the issue with President Hamid Karzai and ministers concerned, Governor Syed Anwar Allah Rahmati promised a day earlier.
