KUNDUZ CITY (PAN): Two fuel tankers were gutted near an airfield in the capital of northern Kunduz province on Saturday, official said.
Carrying fuel from Sher Khan Port to Kabul, the tankers caught fire after being parked close to the airfield, a police official said.
Police spokesman Sarwar Hussaini told Pajhwok Afghan News the oil was saved by firefighters, who reached the scene in time and put out the fire. Only tyres of the vehicles were burnt, he said.
Hafizullah, a resident of the area, claimed seeing the tankers on fire. But he had no idea about the cause.
Zabihullah Mujahid, a Taliban spokesman, said they had destroyed the tankers inside the airfield with a remote-controlled bomb.
