BAMYAN CITY (PAN fighters have been killed and a dozen others wounded during an ongoing clash with police in the central province of Daikundi, officials said on Thursday.
The gunbattle erupted four days ago when the insurgents attacked a police checkpoint in Kajran district, the provincial police chief told Pajhwok Afghan News.
Brig. Gen. Juma Guldi Yardam said seven fighters had been killed and 12 others injured so far. Six policemen have been wounded, two of them critically, he added.
Gen. Yardam alleged the attack had been planned by the Taliban’s Quetta Shura, but the police had been able to beat back the assailants.
But a Taliban spokesman, Qari Yousuf Ahmadi, claimed they had killed five policemen, destroyed a vehicle and captured two officials guarding the checkpoint.
