HERAT CITY (PAN): As part of the third phase of transition, the security responsibility for the Shindand district of western Herat province was handed to Afghan forces, officials said on Thursday.
A ceremony marking the security switch was held on Wednesday afternoon, with Afghan National Army (ANA) officers, civilian officials and NATO representatives in attendance.
Provincial police chief, Brig. Gen. Rahmatullah Safi, told Pajhwok Afghan News Afghan security forces had the capability to maintain peace in district.
Security responsibility for 12 districts of the province has already transitioned to Afghan forces. Chasht-i-Sharif and Oba districts would change hands in near future, Gen. Safi added.
