MAZAR-I-SHARIF (PAN): Outgoing Border Police Commander Brig. Gen. Syed Abdul Habib Syedkheli has said his force was ready to assume increased security responsibility after 2014 along the 2,431-km border under their control in northern Balkh province.
Seydkheli, who handed command to Brig. Gen. Mohammad Zaman Mamozai at a ceremony in Mazar-i-Sharif, said 80 percent of border police were trained and equipped enough to deal with any eventuality.
For his part, Mamozai said, if assisted by the people of northern Afghanistan, he could guarantee ‘foolproof security’ along the border that has 120 police posts.
Governor Atta Mohammad, who was also present on the occasion, said border police had to experience a new dimension in their responsibility in the years ahead as the country prepares for presidential elections and foreign troops’ exit.
