KABUL party on Thursday decided to field its candidate in the presidential election due next year.
The decision came at a meeting of the party’s executive council, Hezb-i-Islami spokesman Abdullah Kamawal told Pajhwok Afghan News.
He said that senior party leaders, including Wolesi Jirga Minister Mohammad Asif Rahimi and Economy Minister Abdul Hadi Arghandiwal attended the meeting.
Among others, former Paktia governor Juma Khan, some sitting governors, dozens of parliamentarians, ex-jihadi commanders and tribal elders were in attendance.
Kamawal said the participants had agreed on constituting a commission for the nomination of its presidential candidate. The commission will consult party representatives across the country before taking a decision in this regard.
