GARDEZ (PAN): Thousands of kilograms of drugs and hundreds of litres of alcohol were destroyed in the southeastern province of Paktia on Wednesday, officials said.
Governor Juma Khan Hamdard and local officials were present on the occasion in Gardez, the provincial capital, the governor’s spokesman, Roohullah Samoon, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
About 4,002kg of hashish, 1,940 litres of spirit and 2,310 litres of acid have been seized across the Paktia province, were set afire in public, he said.
Since the beginning of 2013, up to 84000 kg of drugs has been burnt in the province, the provincial police chief, Brig. Gen. Zalmay Oryakhel, said.
