KABUL as an important component of its efforts for peace and stability in the region.
At a meeting with President Hamid Karzai in Ashgabat late on Wednesday, Zardari said Pakistan remained committed to long-term peace and stability in Afghanistan.
His government had freed a number of high-profile Taliban’s request, he said, explaining the gesture was demonstrative of Pakistan’s sincerity about the reconciliation efforts.
The Associated Press of Pakistan quoted Zardari as reaffirming Islamabad’s strong support for an Afghan-led reconciliation process. A peaceful and stable Afghanistan was in Pakistan’s interest, he acknowledged.
While meeting Turkmenistan’s President Gurbanguly M. Berdimuhamedov, Zardari stressed the importance of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline. He wanted to see the project built as soon as possible.
