KANDAHAR CITY (PAN commanders were captured as a result of a clash with police in the Panjwai district of southern Kandahar province, an official said on Saturday.
Javed Faisal, the governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News that the mid-level militant leaders were detained by the local police force in the Garandi area of the district.
Several other individuals were also nabbed on suspicion of aiding the insurgents, according to the official, who stopped short of putting a figure on the arrests.
Residents said a group of guerrillas had recently sneaked into Garandi in a bid to disturb the law and order situation in the remote area. However, the Taliban have not yet commented on the overnight operation.
