KANDAHAR CITY (PAN): Herat defeated Jawzjan in the final of an inter-zonal football tournament at the Ahmad Shahi Stadium in southern Kandahar province, an official said on Tuesday.
Herat lifted the trophy at stake by scoring five goals, with Jawzjan finding the net only once, Kandahar Football Federation chief, Mudir Agha, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
In their first encounter on Thursday, Jawzjan outplayed Khost and Jawzjan in the extra time. At the end of the stipulated 90-minute time, both sides were tied at two goals each, he said.
The second match between Kandahar and Herat ended in a goalles draw. In the 20 minutes run-off, Kandahar scored two goals to emerge winners.
Aimed to pick the national squad, the tournament kicked off on March 12. The participants were divided into two groups — A and B. Kabul, Herat, Helmand, Jawzjan and Panjsher were placed in group A, while Kandahar, Khost, Nangarhar and Badakhshan in group B.
