ISLAMABAD: Twenty-two Pakistani soldiers were killed in a suicide attack on a security check-post in the restive tribal region of North Waziristan near the Afghanistan border, the military said on Sunday.
At least 10 troops were injured when an explosive-laden vehicle rammed into the checkpoint in Miranshah on Saturday evening, the Inter- Services Public Relations (ISPR) said. The death toll was earlier put at six.
“In last night’s attack on the security check-post in North Waziristan, 22 personnel embraced martyrdom,” a statement from ISPR said. Many of the dead were trapped under the rubble.
The Esha post building was extensively damaged as a result of the powerful explosion, according to a security official based in Peshawar. The blast was followed by indiscriminate gunfire.
