SHIBERGHAN (PAN forces in the Aqcha district of northern Jawzjan province, an official said on Friday.
The overnight offensive was conducted in a mountainous rural area called Beshqal, Col. Abdul Hai Ramzi, police headquarters spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
“During the ground and air operation, 15 militants including two Taliban Kar and Mullah Niazi — were killed, 11 suspects arrested and eight others injured,” he said.
The injured fighters were taken away by their associates while the detainees are in International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) custody, the police spokesman said. Afghan and foreign forces suffered no casualties.
A Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, confirmed the death of six fighters during the operation, saying the security personnel also suffered casualties in the gun-battle.
He said the militants had conducted two attacks on police in Qush Tepa district and on the Shiberghan-Sar-i-Pul highway, killing three policemen, injuring four others and destroying two of their vehicles.
But Ramzi acknowledged the injuries to five policemen in the clashes. He said the policemen’s injuries were not life-threatening.
