KABUL, has been in Kabul to discuss with political parties the upcoming elections, sources said on Wednesday.
The five-member HIA team, led by Mohammad Rasoul, arrived in Kabul a few days ago and had so far held meetings with members of the breakaway faction led by Abdul Hadi Arghandiwal, parliamentarians, political parties and government officials, confirmed Dr. Ghairat Baheer, the HIA (Hekmatyar) political committee head.
He said the visit was part of the group’s ongoing talks with some political parties. Without going into details, the son in law of Hekmatyar said the visit had been successful.
An executive board member of the HIA faction led by Arghandiwal, Eng. Mohammad Khan, said they had detailed discussions with the delegation. Both sides conferred on several issues, he added.
Khan said the visiting delegation had presented some conditions for the elections. They discussed those conditions, in addition to other issues, he said.
About any agreement between the two factions on fielding a consensus presidential candidate, he said the Hikmayar party was yet show readiness to take part in the polls and that any decision to the effect rested with the leadership.
