MAZAR-I-SHARIF (PAN): A newly-built underground market was inaugurated in Mazar-i-Sharif, the capital of northern Balkh province, officials said on Wednesday.
Mayor Mohammad Yunus Muqim told the inauguration ceremony the market constructed over 500 square metres of land cost 49.7 million afghanis ($908,592) funded by a private sector business firm.
The firm would control the market having 196 shops for 30 years before handing over it the municipality, he said.
“Such marketplaces attract customers for being calm and safe,” a Mazar resident Mohammad Din said.
