KABUL’s future prosperity with continued focus on a broad range of private sector initiatives.
Cunningham told the Chamber members that promoting investment and empowering the private sector were critical to Afghanistan’s future, the US embassy said in a statement.
“We look to the American Chamber of Commerce for insight on the business community’s central concerns in these matters,” Cunningham told the collected business executives, managers, entrepreneurs and civic leaders.
The American Chamber of Commerce in Afghanistan has grown significantly in the past year, from 40 to nearly 60 members today, he said, adding the increase in membership came amid continued progress in private sector initiatives and entrepreneurship across the country.
The statement said the US Embassy in Kabul had enjoyed a close relationship with the organization since its founding in 2010, and partners with them on a range of projects.
The Embassy’s Commerce Department representatives together with USAID worked with the Chamber of Commerce to bring Radio Shack, Hertz Rentals, Alpha Graphics, Tudor Doctor and others to Kabul and coordinated a series of meetings with the private sector.
“All of these companies left with a changed and positive attitude about Afghan business. They also left with the potential to close deals in the near future.”
That partnership will continue, Cunningham noted. “Over the next several months, we will continue to work with the Chamber on a series of similar events focusing on franchising, construction, aviation and agribusiness.”
“In a very short time, the American Chamber of Commerce in Afghanistan has become an important and respected institution, providing a crucial forum for networking, sharing best practices, and discussing key issues and challenges,” he said.
“The American Chamber of Commerce in Afghanistan is an indispensable resource for the business community.”
